Dear Cabby,
I and my teacher don't get along. I'm often quite scared to ask questions. When I do work up the courage to raise my hand, I'm usually ignored or told to put my hand down. I'm scared of failing this year because my teacher won't let me learn. What can I do to get along with my teacher while pulling up my grades?

It can be hard to ask your teachers questions and when they just tell you to put your hand down it makes it even harder. What I would do if I were you is try going up to the teacher during some free time in class, when everyone is working on a quiet assignment would be good. If that doesn’t work you could also try asking a teacher after class. Usually they would be happy to help you. The final thing you could try if nothing else works, e-mail them. I know it seems really lame and all but if you want your question answered that is one way you could get them answered. It would be rude of them to not answer your e-mail with questions about the class. It will also show your teachers that you are interested to learn about what is going on and that you really want to understand it. They will have to answer your question sooner or later because they are you teachers and it is their job.
